“There is nothing in this universe you need more desperately than Christ.” –R.C. Sproul
I love this quote because I have a deep need for Jesus. This semester I was frequently reminded of this, and learned a ton about myself and how faithful our God is.
Here are a few things I learned and will continue to learn:
- Good community is significant.
We need people in our lives who can encourage and pray for us as well as hold us accountable to the truth. We need to be reminded of the truth daily because we are forgetful people. God has incredibly blessed me with these types of friends whom I am thankful for. Rather than just having friendships to be encouraged and served by others, we are called TO serve others for the glory of God.
- I need Jesus every day.
Sometimes it felt like the grind of college was stealing my joy. “I have to do 4 projects, prepare for a speech, and study for multiple tests all in the SAME week! I can’t do it all!”
It is during those times when I am humbly reminded of my great need for Jesus. I can never do it alone, nor did He ask me to. I need Him every day, and I will never outgrow my need for His grace and gospel.
- Sometimes I need to stop and rest.
I am the type of person who could keep going without any breaks until I am completely burned out. I’m serious… I have never and will probably never enjoy naps. In the past few months, I was reminded that genuine rest is important.
My Dad once told me that rest is a form of trust – trusting in the Lord that He will carry and guide you every step of the way regardless of how everything is. He calls us to set our striving aside, be still, and acknowledge that He is God. Our job is to rest in His truth rather than worrying about everything because we are always being held by Him.
- He does not change.
My circumstances can change in an instant, and changes make it feel like my life has turned on its head. I cannot guarantee any promise I make, but God always keeps His. This life is so temporary, but He is permanent.
He is the One who never changes and is steadfast regardless of what lies behind me and in front of me.
One of my favorite verses states this so well, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” (Isaiah 40:8).
I am constantly reminded of my great need for Jesus. Although I run away from Him frequently, God does not let go of me. Yes, this semester had both hard and weird parts, but God was with me. He will ALWAYS be with me. In the past few months, I learned a ton about myself, life in general, and how loving and faithful our God is.
I am looking forward to soon sharing with you changes on the horizon for the upcoming semester. I am excited to see how His plans will unfold through these changes in the upcoming months.
